Dubai: The New Babel

In an effort to poke out the eyes of God, Dubai has awarded South Korea’s Samsung Corporation the contract to build the world’s tallest building. When completed, The Burj Tower will stand at 800 metres high, (2,640 feet) almost 300 metres taller than the current world’s tallest building, the TFC 101 building in Taiwan. That’s a half mile straight up, kids. The building was designed by SOM Chicago, and is ambitiously scheduled to be complete by November of 2008. But with SOM at the head, you never know if another lawsuit might slow things down.

And I almost forgot…the estimated price of the project? 8 billion dollars. ($8,000,000,000!)

That rendering is going to give me nightmares for a month.
