Last week, Artforum published a portfolio of architectural responses to Hurricane Katrina from American and Dutch Firms. The six proposals – MVRDV, Huff + Gooden, UN Studio, Morphosis, West 8, and Hargreaves Associates – were selected by Reed Kroloff, dean of the Tulane University School of Architecture, and Aaron Betsky, the director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute; both of whom wrote accompanying essays. MVRDV’s proposal for a hilltop school in a badly damaged neighborhood was inspired by a child’s drawing…of their unbuilt Serpentine Pavillion proposal.
Kidding. More on this later.
