Downtown New Orleans is in for a much needed facelift, complements of Dr. Thomas Mayne. This week saw the unveiling of a sweeping new scheme for the Superdome Area, designed by the Pritzker-winning architect. The plans feature a refurbished Hyatt Hotel, new National Jazz Center, a new city hall, civic courthouse, amphitheater, residential buildings, and acres of new park space. Renderings and more information can be found at Architectural Record, natch.

Wow, those plans look great! Definitely a facelift for New Orleans. As devastating as Katrina has been, it could ultimately help New Orleans to become a better, more modern city. That sketch looks amazing, a far cry from how New ORleans was even before Katrina.
