While crusing around Google Earth last week (looking for Santa) I came across The World, the man-made island collection in Dubai. The globalmorphic archipelago continues to take shape, as shown in these Google Earth images. Zooming in reveals an enormous, sand-gun equipped barge in the process of creating the 300 islands by firing an almost football field-sized blast of sand.
This island-sculpting barge could also come in handy in the next hundred or so years when overpopulation starts to become an even greater problem. Or maybe the greatest minds of our time will come together to start an Atlas Shrugged-style neo-Atlantis somewhere in the Atlantic.
