Oooosaka. Ooooosaka Desu…

On my recent trip to Japan, I stumbled upon the National Museum of Art, Osaka. Designed by Cesar Pelli Pelli Clarke Pelli, this museum has the distinct privilege of being mentioned in one of the earliest posts here on Life Without Buildings. I can’t believe that was almost 3 years ago…
That’s a little depressing.

Pelli’s building is in the foreground. Behind it, if I remember correctly is the National Science Museum. Due to the nature of the small site, the National Museum is completely underground.

The sculptural metal form acts as entry lobby/civic icon, leading down into the main museum.

A view from the interior.
